Works Like a Charm

Works Like A Charm is an art project inspired by Chinese artefacts symbolising luck and protection from the China in the East touring exhibition.

Sonja Zelić and Helen Morse Palmer have used these amulets to start a conversation around the theme of luck with the community of Limes Farm in Chigwell, Essex.

This site specific artist led collaboration involved ten community groups and over 400 people to devise and make lucky charms for the new Limes Community Centre. These 'charms' now form a permanent trail around the building ― glass boxes containing objects are built into the walls, words carved into paving slabs, tiles in the kitchens and WCs and windows are printed with personal stories and sayings about luck.

Documentation of the work was shown as part of ― China in the East, Touring Exhibition, Epping Forest District Museum, 2012.
